Michael Ryan (Mikey) was born in Ileigh on 1st March 1934. He lived the majority of his life in Gurtnara Upperchurch with his brothers and worked on the farm.
He was a friendly man who had a keen interest in sport, especially GAA and would often be watching the matches on the television at home. He always had time for a chat and was popular amongst his neighbours.
His life was cut short on 13th December 1999 when he was discovered dead in a water butt on the farm by his brother Pakie Ryan. The cause of death was determined as drowning. He is greatly missed to this day by his family and friends. A great man!
