Edward (Eddie) Ryan was born on 19th March 1938 in Ileigh, Co. Tipperary.
As a young boy he enjoyed hurling and played for Upperchurch during his youth.
Eddie enjoyed walking across the surrounding hills in Upperchurch with his dogs and looking after his sheep and goats. He was often seen around the village on his moped and at one point he owned 2 mopeds which his niece and nephew (Suzanne and George) often rode when visiting on holiday.
Eddie was close to death in 1999 when he was in intensive care in Limerick Hospital with a serious stomach illness. During his time in hospital his brother Mikey (who he was very close to) died suddenly. Due to his illness he was wasn’t aware of Mikey’s death until several weeks after his death and funeral – Eddie was devastated.
Fortunately Eddie made a good recovery and soon returned to full health. He continued to look after his sheep and goats and helped Pakie with the farm. Unfortunately his ill health returned in 2008 and he died on 8th September 2008 with his surviving brother Frank at his bedside.
